Benzo[k]fluoranthene is an optical sensor for nitro-aromatic compounds, chosen due to fluorescence quenching of the molecule (see Reference 2). Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compound. Benzo(k)fluoranthene is primarily found in gasoline exhaust, cigarette smoke, coal tar, coal and oil combustion emissions, lubricating oils, used motor oils and crude oils and is consdered a contaminant. This compound could be used as reference material.
