Bertin Bioreagent - Advanced Bioanalytical Tools for Life Science Research
Bertin Bioreagent, a division of Bertin Technologies, is a company specializing in the development and manufacturing of high-quality bioanalytical tools for life science research. Established in 1991, Bertin Bioreagent offers a robust portfolio of products focused on biomarker detection and sample preservation, supporting a wide range of research fields.
Their product lineup includes ready-to-use assay kits such as ELISA, EIA, and enzymatic kits, designed for sensitive and accurate quantification of biomarkers. Many of these kits utilize the proprietary Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) technology, offering enhanced sensitivity and a broad dynamic range. These assays are widely used in research areas like metabolism, oxidative stress, and hormone analysis. Bertin Bioreagent also provides an extensive collection of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, validated for key applications including Western blot, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and radioimmunoassay (RIA). These antibodies are tailored to targets, such as prion proteins, transcription factors, and histones. In addition to analytical tools, Bertin offers pre-analytical reagents designed to preserve sample integrity by preventing biomarker degradation immediately after sample collection. This is critical for ensuring the accuracy of downstream analyses.
Bertin Bioreagent’s products are widely applied across several key research areas. In immunology, they provide tools to study cytokine profiles and immune responses. In metabolism, their kits support research on obesity, diabetes, and energy homeostasis. For neuroscience, they offer reagents useful in analyzing neurotransmitter levels and studying neurodegenerative diseases. In endocrinology, their solutions allow precise hormone quantification, supporting investigations into endocrine disorders. Researchers studying hypertension benefit from their tools for examining cardiovascular regulatory mechanisms. Finally, in the field of oxidative injury, their assays enable detailed evaluation of reactive oxygen species and antioxidant defenses.
With a strong scientific foundation and a commitment to innovation, Bertin Bioreagent remains a trusted partner for academic, clinical, and pharmaceutical researchers.

Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) in Pain and Inflammation
Pain is a sensation of an unpleasant nature in response to a noxious stimulus. Physiologically, pain has a critical function for survival and represents a major evolutionary advantage. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has been identified as a key vasodilator neuropeptide involved in several pain and inflammation mechanisms. For example, it has been shown that CGRP is released during migraines and that an increase in circulating CGRP levels can trigger migraines in patients. To understand the complex mechanisms involved in chronic pain conditions, it is important to be able to measure the levels of neuropeptides associated with nociceptive pathways such as CGRP. Working with plasma, nerve tissue, or skin samples can turn CGRP quantification into a guessing game, due to weak signals and variable results. Bertin Bioreagent offers ELISA kits for CGRP quantification in complex human and rodent samples. Today, the Bertin Bioreagent CGRP kits are widely used by scientists and have been extensively cited in pain and inflammation studies.

Ghrelin - A well-known Orexigenic Hormone important in Metabolism Research
Obesity is a complex condition that poses a major risk for serious diet-related, non-communicable diseases, including type 2 diabetes. Ghrelin is fast becoming an endocrinology target of the millennium. Ghrelin is a well-known orexigenic hormone (a hormone that leads to an increase in appetite). It has become an obvious target for the treatment of eating disorders like obesity or anorexia nervosa. However, Ghrelin is also implicated in many other physiological systems like the cardiovascular, bone, gastrointestinal, and immune systems, as well as some physio-pathological states like mood or muscle mass maintenance, heart failure, myocardial infarction, cachexia, or cancer. While Acylated Ghrelin is known as the active form of the peptide, and as the only form for which a receptor has been identified, clinical trials have shown positive results using the Unacylated form. The underlying mechanisms are not yet well understood, and several teams in the world are currently working on this topic.
Bertin Technologies was the first company to provide bioanalytical tools to assay Acylated and Unacylated Ghrelin with a very high sensitivity. Today, in addition to their existing Ghrelin Express ELISA kits, Bertin Bioreagent offers a set of assays that will allow any scientist to measure Acylated & Unacylated Ghrelin in samples collected with any blood collection process.

Wide Range of Biomarker Assays and Antibodies
Biomarkers are powerful tools for drug development and for the discovery of new active compounds in cosmetics, food, and agro industries, even for behavioral monitoring, like in sports or food diet studies. Bertin Bioreagent offers more than 70 assay kits (ELISA, EIA, enzymatic…) and 220 antibodies (monoclonal and polyclonal) targeting biomarkers involved in various fields such as obesity, diabetes, pain, inflammation, or endocrinology. Bertin can also develop custom-made assay kits to find specific targets. The product range also includes necessary pre-analytical tools and biochemicals to collect and pre-treat samples for future analysis.
Bertin Bioreagent offers a wide range of Assays based on different technologies: Antibodies, Enzyme/Substrate, Enzyme/Dye Complexes, Fluorescent Detection, Oligonucleotide Cleavage Assay, and Hypernated Techniques. Bertin Bioreagent uses the Acetylcholinesterase (AChE®) technology in most of its ELISA kits. Acetylcholinesterase, the enzymatic label for ELISA, has the fastest turnover rate of any enzymatic label. The use of AChE® as an enzymatic label for ELISA has been patented by the CEA (French Alternative Energies & Atomic Energy Commission) and Bertin Bioreagent, formerly known as SPI-Bio, which has over 20 years of expertise developing and producing ELISA kits using this technology.
AChE® offers several advantages compared to enzymes conventionally used in ELISAs:
- Kinetic superiority and high sensitivity
- Low background
- Wide dynamic range
- Versatility
