Description

2,2'-Dipyridyldisulfide is a useful colorimetric reagent for the determination of sulfhydryl groups (Molar absorptivity: >14,000; ~235nm). It is used to determine cholinesterase in whole blood by spectrophotometric method. 2,2'-Dipyridyldisulfide is a common reagent in peptide chemistry, often used in oxidationreduction condensations to form peptide bonds or in coupling reactions to form disulfide-linked heterodimers. It is used for preparation of amino acid active esters and the thio esters of phosphoric acid. It acts as a peptide coupling reagent and as an oxidizing agent. It is also used for the activation of glycosides.
