FNDC4 is a hepatokine secreted from liver that acts in white adipose tissue via the new orphan adhesion G protein-coupled receptor 116 (GPR116) to control systemic glucose homeostasis. Injections of recombinant Fc-FNDC4 into pre-diabetic mice corrected pre-diabetic hyperglycemia.

Isthmin-1 (Ism1) is new an insulin-like adipokine that induces glucose uptake in human and mouse adipocytes. Ism1 triggers a signaling cascade similar to that of insulin, regulating glucose uptake while suppressing lipid accumulation.
