Description
- Noncaloric natural sweetener, 300 times more potent than sucrose [1].
- Antidiabetic. Antihyperglycaemic and antihypoglycaemic. Potentiates insulin secretion. Enhances acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) gene expression. Increases insulin sensitivity. [2, 4, 6-9, 11].
- Antihypertensive. Ca2+ influx inhibitor [3, 6].
- Anticancer compound [5].
- Chemopreventive [14].
- Anti-inflammatory. IKKβ, NF-κB and MAPK signaling inhibitor. Induces TNF-α, IL-1β and nitric oxide release [10, 17, 18].
- Immunomodulator. Increasees phagocytic activity, haemagglutination antibody titre, delayed type hypersensitivity. Increased proliferation in LPS and Con A stimulated B and T cells [12].
- Peripheral μ-opioid receptors activator. Important for regulation of glucose homeostasis [15].
- Anti-atherosclerotic [16].
- Review [13].
