Description
Azidothymidine (AZT), was the first antiretroviral medication used to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS. It is a thymidine analogue, that works as a reverse transcriptase inhibitor against the HIV-1 virus. It is generally recommended for use in combination with other antiretrovirals.
