            Description
Dihydroergotamine (DHE) acts on serotonin receptors (particularly 5-HT1 receptors) and alpha-adrenergic receptors in the brain. By stimulating these receptors, DHE causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), which can reduce the blood flow that might be responsible for migraine symptoms. It also has some effects on dopamine receptors. The main metabolites include Dihydroergotamine-N-oxide, 14-hydroxy-dihydroergotamine and Dihydroergocryptine. These metabolites are excreted mainly in the urine.
