Description
Bromocriptine is a dopamine D2 receptor agonist. It also binds to the serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtypes 5-HT1A and 5-HT1D, as well as α1-adrenergic receptors. Formulations containing bromocriptine have been used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, hyperprolactinemia-associated dysfunctions and acromegaly. Bromocriptine undergoes hepatic metabolism and is primarily processed in the liver. The main metabolites of bromocriptine are Bromocriptine N-oxide and Hydroxybromocriptine. These metabolites are excreted mainly in the urine.
