Description
Corticotropin-releasing factor is a peptide hormone that plays a key role in the bodys response to stress. CRF is a key part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which regulates various physiological processes such as metabolism, immune function, and the body's response to stress. CRF is involved in the stress response and helps regulate the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary gland. ACTH then stimulates the release of cortisol from the adrenal glands. CRF binds to two types of receptors CRF1 and CRF2, both of which are involved in different aspects of the stress response and may influence mood, anxiety, and behavior.
