Description
Cellular retinoic acid-binding protein 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CRABP1 gene. A number of specific carrier proteins for members of the vitamin A family have been discovered. CRABP is assumed to play an important role in retinoic acid-mediated differentiation and proliferation processes. CRABP1 is structurally similar to the cellular retinol-binding proteins, but binds only retinoic acid, and constitutively expressed. It is thought to play an important role in retinoic acid-mediated differentiation and proliferation processes. In addition, Crabp1 protects cells from excess RA by binding it in the cytosol, away from RARs.
