Description
Estrogen receptors (ERs) are nuclear hormone receptors that mediate the effects of 17β-Estradiol (E2) and estrogen (E1), key sex hormones in both females and males. These receptors are transcription factors, meaning they regulate gene expression when activated. Estrogen receptors (ERα & ERβ) play a major role in growth, reproduction, metabolism, and disease processes. They regulate gene expression and influence breast cancer, bone health, heart function, and brain activity. ERα is pro-growth and linked to breast cancer, while ERβ may have protective effects.
