Description
NCOR (Nuclear Receptor Corepressor 1) is a corepressor protein that inhibits gene transcription by interacting with nuclear receptors and other transcription factors. It plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression, metabolism, and cell differentiation by repressing target genes when transcription is not needed. NCOR binds to nuclear receptors (NRs) or transcription factors when there is no ligand (hormone) present. It recruits histone deacetylases (HDACs) to tighten chromatin. When a ligand (hormone like thyroid hormone or retinoic acid) binds to the receptor, NCOR is released. NCOR interacts with many transcription factors and nuclear receptors, including Thyroid Hormone Receptor (TR), Retinoic Acid Receptor (RAR), Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor (PPAR), Glucocorticoid Receptor (GR), Androgen Receptor (AR) & Estrogen Receptor (ER).
