Description
XPB is a DNA helicase and a key component of the Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER) pathway and transcription initiation and functions primarily in DNA unwinding to facilitate repair and transcription. XPB is part of the TFIIH complex, which is essential for nucleotide excision repair (NER). It unwinds DNA around damaged sites, allowing repair factors to access and excise the damaged region. Mutations in XPB (ERCC3) lead to Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP-B subtype). This leads to extreme UV sensitivity, high risk of skin cancer, and sometimes neurological defects.
