Scientific Background Information
Product Description
Basic Parafuchsin is a triaminotriphenylmethane dye widely used as a biological stain, pH indicator, and analytical reagent in chemical and microbiological laboratories. It is widely used to stain muscle, mitochondria, and collagen. Basic Parafuchsin is also commonly employed in histological staining and in colorimetric assays, including the determination of sulfite and sulfur dioxide. It is used in As a pH indicator, it undergoes a color transition from yellow to red-violet over a pH range of approximately 0.2-1.8, making it suitable for strongly acidic solutions. Spectral Data: λmax=544 nm. Basic Parafuchsin is the main, pure component of Basic Fuchsin mixtures. It is used in acid-fast staining procedures, in Endo culture medium, a solution used in bacteriological analysis, as Schiff′s reagent in the Periodic Acid Schiff and Feulgen techniques (staining methods used in pathology and histology) or also used in Gomori′s aldehyde fuchsin method for hepatitis B surface antigen and pancreatic B cells. Basic Parafuchsin displays anesthetic, bactericidal (gram-positive), and fungicidal properties.
