Description
Doramectin (a macrocyclic lactone derivative of ivermectin) is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic agent belonging to the avermectin class, widely used in veterinary medicine and parasitology research. It is a an anthelmintic that potentiates glutamate- and GABA-gated chloride channel opening in nematodes. Doramectin targets the gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors and the glutamate gated chloride ion channels (GluCl) which are concerned with neurotransmission in parasites. Opening of the chloride ion channels of the organism resulting in the influx of chloride ions causes paralysis and death. Doramectin is highly effective against a range of internal and external parasites, including gastrointestinal nematodes, mites, lice, and certain arthropods in livestock. Doramectin has also been described to have anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, anticancer, antiobesity and antiviral properties. Compound can be used as analytical reference material.
