7-Hydroxycoumarin-3-carboxylic acid is one of the most popular blue fluorophores for labeling proteins and nucleic acids mostly through the in situ formation of its succinimidyl ester. It is also used to label peptides, nucleotides and carbohydrates. This coumarin is used as a fluorogenic substrate for glycosyltransferase assays and as a pH-indicator. Spectral data: Ex/Em = 386/448 nm (TRIS, pH9). Shown to have cytotoxic activity in some cancer cells.
