IR-820 is a near infrared dye (NIR), which has a broad absorption band at 690nm in aqueous solution, with high resistance to photodegradation and photocleavage. IR-820 is an excellent probe for imaging tumors, as it can be detected in skin cells, chitosan quaternary ammonium, and subcutaneous tumors using fluorescence imaging. IR-820 is an infrared blood pool contrast agent to detect and quantify diseased tissue in live animals. IR-820 has maximal excitation and emission wavelengths of 710 and 820nm, respectively. IR-820 emission is significantly improved in vivo on serum binding to albumin, and elimination occurs predominantly via the gastrointestinal tract. IR820 has optical and thermal generation properties similar to those of indocyanine green (ICG) but with improved in vitro and in vivo stability. The fluorescent emission of IR820 has a lower quantum yield than ICG but less dependence of the emission peak location on concentration. IR820 demonstrated degradation half-times approximately double those of ICG under all temperature and light conditions in aqueous solution. IR-820 is a cost-effective imaging agent with low cytotoxicity. Spectral Data: λex=710nm, λem=820nm.
