Integrin β6 (ITGB6) is a transmembrane receptor subunit that pairs exclusively with integrin αv to form the αvβ6 integrin heterodimer. This receptor is normally expressed at low levels in healthy adult tissues but is upregulated during tissue injury, inflammation, and epithelial remodeling. Integrin β6 plays a key role in activating transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and mediating cell adhesion, migration, and signaling. Its overexpression has been associated with fibrosis and various epithelial cancers, where it contributes to tumor invasion and poor prognosis.
