Scientific Background Information

Product Description

eIF4A3 is an ATP-dependent RNA helicase of the DEAD-box protein family. Unlike eIF4A1 and eIF4A2, eIF4A3 primarily functions as a core component of the exon junction complex (EJC), which is deposited on mRNA following pre-mRNA splicing. eIF4A3 binds RNA and ATP and acts as an RNA clamp within the EJC together with MAGOH, RBM8A/Y14 and CASC3. Through this complex, eIF4A3 contributes to mRNA processing, nuclear export, localization, translation regulation and nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). eIF4A3 is therefore widely studied in RNA metabolism, post-transcriptional gene regulation and RNA quality control. Recombinant eIF4A3 is suitable for biochemical studies of RNA binding, ATPase/helicase activity, exon junction complex formation and screening or characterization of eIF4A3 modulators.
