Cefpodoxime is a metabolite of cefpodoxime proxetil, an oral third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is active against most Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria (MIC90 ranges from 0.015-8 µg/ml). It is commonly used to treat acute otitis media, pharyngitis, and sinusitis. Cefpodoxime inhibits cell wall synthesis by inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in cell walls.
