- Ansamycin antibiotic.
- Intermediate of rifampicin.
- Selective inhibitor of bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RNAP).
- Effective against mycobacteria. Therefore used in research of tuberculosis, leprosy and Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections.
